Whileaway Guides - Ballarat & Surrounds
Rich and prosperous in history, Ballarat and the picturesque countryside surrounding it is full of charm. Famous for its gold rush era in the 1850s and Eureka Stockade in 1854, the area was flooded with hopefuls to strike it lucky! Lucky for us these days, the fruits of their labour (and wealth poured into the town) has left a legacy of beautiful wide streets lined with stunning historical buildings and a central lake, you can almost picture the hive of activity back in those days. Only a short 90 minute drive west of Melbourne, there is something alluring about this city from the moment you arrive. Today it’s kicking goals as a culture hot spot and food and wine destination including the Pyrenees nearby. There is plenty to do plus it’s a great spot for the kids too making it an all round memorable experience.
